Dear Friends,

Each year, during National Catholic Schools Week, SMPA joyfully celebrates its Catholic roots and connection to the wider catholic community. Mornings are devoted to regular class time, while each afternoon, students and staff engage in a fun activity designed to build community. This year, activities included duckpin bowling, ice skating, trampoline park, pajamas and movie, and student-staff swap day!

Teacher Caitlin Healey offered these reflections on unity in community at Morning Gathering:

“The word “catholic” comes from the Greek word “katholikos” which means “universal” and “inclusive.” So, when we say someone is catholic, we are saying that they are part of something that is all-encompassing and open to everyone.

Being committed to a community with catholic values goes beyond just attending church services. It means living our lives in a way that reflects the teachings of love, kindness, and understanding that Jesus Christ shared with us. It’s about treating others the way we want to be treated and finding strength in our beliefs to make the world a better place.

Attending a Catholic school means being part of a community – a group of people who share similar beliefs and values. Together, we support one another, learn from each other, and grow in our faith. This sense of community helps us navigate the ups and downs of life, knowing that we are not alone. The word “catholic” is a powerful reminder of unity in diversity, love, and a sense of belonging to a global family. So, let’s strive to live our lives with an open heart, embracing the differences that make each person special, and working together to create a world filled with love and understanding.”

Quarterly Awards Ceremony

Every quarter we recognize students’ achievements, including perfect attendance, academic excellence, and good character. Our entire school community, including families, attend. One of the awards given recognizes students who embody the SMPA Honor Way, which outlines the ways in which students can be their best selves.

SMPA students:
are people of faith and prayer.
recognize the dignity of every person.
are persons of personal integrity.
are aware of their social responsibilities and willingly participate in community activities that give back the many gifts they have been given by their Loving God.
know that knowledge is attained through hard work and personal responsibility.
recognize that they are beginning NOW to prepare for college.
greet all guests with a strong handshake and cordial greeting.
know that a smile and a kind word are gifts that should be given frequently.
are neatly attired and reflect the presence of a responsible young person.
know that manners are a sign of respect for themselves and others.
