Saint Martin de Porres Academy Students got a thrill of a lifetime today when the Vice President of the United States visited The Hill!
On Friday, March 26th Vice President Kamala Harris visited The Boys and Girls Club of New Haven. Saint Martin de Porres Academy was so excited to be able to watch her arrive on Columbus Avenue – – right from our front steps! Students and staff stood outside of the school building eagerly awaiting the vice presidential motorcade’s arrival, waving and cheering as she passed by and waved back. We were then able to watch her depart from Columbus Avenue, where Vice President Harris again waved to Saint Martin’s students. Vice President Harris signed a poster for us with the message, “SMPA, Continue to lead – We need you.”
Students shared what made the Vice President’s visit so special to them:

“It was honestly hard to believe that I saw THE Vice President of the United States. Especially since Kamala Harris was the first woman VP. This was probably a once in a lifetime experience. it was very special having her drive right down our street and waving to us.” – Robin, 7th Grade, Class of 2030

“I loved seeing the Vice President, Vice President Harris made History for us African Americans.” – Shania, 7th Grade, Class of 2030
We are so grateful to Vice President Kamala Harris for visiting our neighborhood and for this historic and memorable experience.
