Each morning our entire school gathers to start our day together. Part of that gathering includes saying our Honor Code which ends with, “I will endeavor to share my gifts and talents to make my family, my school, and my community a place of justice and peace.”
SMPA students made a banner reflecting on what Peace and Justice looks like, sounds like, and feels like to them.
This is some of what the students said:
“It feels like being empathetic to one another.”
“It looks like a place where everyone cares for each other.” -Jon Carlos
“It looks like calming and peace. It sounds like welcoming people. It feels like family and love.” -Naomi
“A community of justice and peace looks like peace and happiness. It is where everyone is treated equally and loved unconditionally. It sounds like joy and laughter. It feels calm and happy. ” – Samantha
“It feels like you can make new friends everyday.” -Johanna
“It feels safe, sounds like good words, feel like love, peace, quiet and joy.”
“It sounds like, “Hey! I’ll help you with those books if you need me to!” It can look like a lot of different situations too!”
