Support Made Available under Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act Tax Credit Program

SMPA received a $5,000 grant from Southern Connecticut Gas through Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit program. The grants, made possible by Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA) Tax Credit Program, are aimed at helping nonprofit organizations across the state improve energy efficiency and reduce their energy costs.
“The grant, which is being matched by The Jerome Avenue Fund, will help us improve our energy efficiency through electrical and plumbing upgrades to our 140-year-old school building along with a long-needed new HVAC system.” said SMPA President Allison Rivera. “We are so grateful to Southern Connecticut Gas Company for their second year of support through the Neighborhood Assistance Act. Last year we were able to replace the windows in our school which helped with energy efficiency and in meeting Covid safety recommendations,” said President Rivera.
“As we prepare to celebrate the holidays during these unprecedented times, we are mindful of the many people in our communities who are suffering as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic – and of the important roles nonprofit organizations play in supporting them,” said Frank Reynolds, President of UI, SCG and CNG. “This program allows us to help our nonprofit partners achieve ongoing energy savings, allowing our partners to focus their resources on the critical programs and services that they provide.”
Since 2010, UI, SCG and CNG has awarded $4.2 million in grants through the NAA program. United Illuminating (UI), Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG) and Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) — all subsidiaries of AVANGRID, Inc. — distributed a total of $450,000 in grants to 65 organizations this year.
The NAA Program offers Connecticut corporate tax credits to businesses (C Corporations) who provide financial support to qualified local nonprofit organizations, like Saint Martin de Porres Academy. The 2022 NAA grants supported a wide variety of projects. You can learn more about the program at NAA tax credit Program at NAA tax credit Program.
