Every student who attends Saint Martin de Porres Academy is awarded a $16,000 scholarship – the cost of attending SMPA for one year. Scholarship certificates are framed and presented at a special ceremony attended by the students and their families at the beginning of the school year called Scholarship Night.
The certificate reads: This certifies that [student name] has been awarded a $16,000 scholarship to attend Saint Martin de Porres Academy by the Board of Trustees and is therefore entitled to all the rights and privileges of a Saint Martin de Porres Academy student.
Embodied in those rights and privileges is our 12-year commitment to support each student academically, socially, emotionally and financially from middle school through college; the promise of high-quality academics, a range of opportunities and enrichment activities, and support from our Graduate Support Program including college visit trips, SAT prep, scholarship help, FAFSA, admissions and financial aid workshops and more.
These scholarships represent the covenant between SMPA, the student and the community. They represent all of the hands who lift them up – – the people who believe in their right to a quality education and a future free from poverty, and everyone who makes an investment in who they are and all they can become.
Through this covenant, we promise to support and nurture our students and graduates as we walk alongside them on their journey and they promise to work hard, dream big, and act fearlessly. These middle school scholarships are the first step along the path toward helping to end the cycle of poverty in their lives.
