Some people think that May heralds the wind down of the school year. At SMPA, May begins one of our busiest times of the year as Dr. O’Leary and I, along with some staff and board members, rush from graduation to graduation to graduation in and out of Connecticut. We have college graduations, high school graduations and our 8th grade graduation from St. Martin de Porres Academy. In between, we are working on getting summer camps and activities lined up for our middle schoolers, preparing for our week-long, whole-school field trip, arranging college campus tours and the week-long Summer Institute for our graduates in high school and planning our annual College Graduate Reunion. Along with hiring staff and the recruitment of new students for the fall. Never a dull moment at the Academy!
If you know of any rising 5th grade or 6th grade low-income students in the greater New Haven area who would benefit from being part of the St. Martin’s family, please let them know that we have openings for the fall. The 5th Graders are the Class of 2035! The application is available on our website.
This week there are also a couple of extra opportunities to support SMPA – through a fundraiser at J. McLaughlin in Madison (and online) that is being co-hosted by trustee Sarah Davis and Spring Fling Co-chair Teresa Sullivan on Thursday, and through the annual Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s Great Give. AND, if you are so inclined, you can purchase a ticket for our $10,000 Grand Prize Raffle which will be drawn at our Golf-Fore-Kids Tournament on June 26th.
As you navigate through whatever season life has brought you to, carry with you this heartfelt thought from Christian, Class of 2028, “I want to take a moment to pray for all the people who help us to move forward. Without them, we wouldn’t be here. I hope that we all may move towards our goals for the future and I pray that you achieve your goals and that God will keep you safe.”
With gratitude,
