Education Volunteers

So you're thinking about signing up but you need to know more...

Good - here's what we've got!

One of the wonderful things about being a St. Martin de Porres Academy school volunteer is that you are meeting a real need. The requests come in from teachers, librarians, extended day staff, and you help fill that need. How great is that!

Here are some of things our volunteers do:

Tutor individual student / Small Group Tutors: (daytime and homework club)

• Assist with homework
• Teach a young person to read
• Help a young person with math
• Teach study skills in small groups

Reading aloud: (daytime)

• Read with a young person
• Let a student read to you

Extended Day Program: (4pm to 5pm)

• Share a special talent or skill by teaching a class
• Organize games such dodge ball or flag football
• Play board games with kids
• Supervise playground

Sports Program: (seasonal)

• Supervise or assist with supervising basketball, soccer or baseball
• Build relationships through play
• Teach team building fundamentals

Library:

• Shelve and organize books
• Help students find books
