St. Martin de Porres Academy featured on WFSB-TV as a Cool School

St. Martin de Porres Academy has been recognized by WFSB-TV as a Cool School.  This weekly news feature, hosted by meteorologist and reporter Mark Dixon, highlights the unique programs and successes of school communities across our state.  SMPA was recognized for our required music education program, our extensive support of graduates through high school and college, our Social-Emotional-Spiritual approach to learning woven throughout our curriculum, and putting our faith into action through service -- all signature elements of our unique NativityMiguel model.  We're grateful to Mark Dixon and WFSB for this distinction and telling our story on the air; we think they are cool, too!

School Service Day Marks Feast of St. Martin de Porres

On November 4th, students and staff celebrated the feast day of our patron. In honor of the acts of kindness and service that St. Martin de Porres offered to others, students went to various locations in New Haven and Hamden to lend assistance to those in need.  Sites included Amistad Catholic Worker, Christian Community Action, Clelian Adult Day Center, Community Soup Kitchen, New Haven Home Recovery, St. Ann Soup Kitchen, Tower One Tower East.  At the Academy, students made friendship bracelets and kits for patients at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and prepared our Community Garden for winter; the garden helps provide food for the Downtown Soup Kitchen.
